OneSource Leadership Joins the Taiwan–Guatemala Chip Route Initiative

Guatemala is taking steps to enter one of the world’s most strategic industries: semiconductors.

Through La Ruta del Chip, the Government of Guatemala, led by the Ministry of Economy and ProGuatemala, is building a national roadmap to position the country as an emerging participant in the global semiconductor and electronics value chain. The initiative brings together government, private-sector companies, academia, and international cooperation partners.

OneSource leadership is proud to be part of this conversation, contributing private-sector experience and perspective as Guatemala develops the capabilities, talent, infrastructure, and business ecosystem required to participate in this rapidly growing global market.

“Semiconductors are the foundation of the AI era. Building the right talent, capabilities, and partnerships today is how we create a place in the technology economy of tomorrow.”

Why does it matter?

The semiconductor industry sits behind virtually every major technology transformation—from AI and cloud infrastructure to telecommunications, automotive systems, medical technology, IoT, sensors, and advanced manufacturing.

According to Guatemala’s Ministry of Economy, the global semiconductor market was valued at approximately $503 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $980 billion by 2029, representing an estimated 11.1% CAGR.

Guatemala is not attempting to replicate the entire semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Its initial opportunity is more targeted: developing capabilities in areas such as semiconductor design, testing and technical support, alongside applications including sensors, wearables and agrotech. The initiative specifically identifies knowledge transfer, specialized employment, foreign direct investment and the integration of local companies into global supply chains as expected outcomes.

From participation to economic impact

The significance of Ruta del Chip goes beyond the semiconductor industry itself. It represents an opportunity to build higher-value technical capabilities inside Guatemala, create specialized engineering and manufacturing jobs, attract technology investment, and connect local companies to sophisticated international supply chains.

Taiwan’s participation is particularly relevant. Guatemala’s semiconductor strategy has been developed with support from Taiwan, including analysis from Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), while the broader TaiwanICDF cooperation framework explicitly focuses on transferring know-how and supporting economic development in partner countries.

For OneSource, participating in initiatives like Ruta del Chip is aligned with a broader objective: helping connect technology, talent and business transformation to the next generation of economic opportunities in the region.
